Children’s Medication Dosage Guide

Children’s Medication Dosage Guide - a child is taking medication

Ensure that medication dosage is suitable for use in children.

For children over two years of age:-

Paediatric (child) dose = (Age in years x Adult dose) ÷ (Age in years +12)

E.g. for a child aged 7 years old with medicine requiring 15mL for one dose: (7×15)÷(7+12) = 5.5mL

For children under two years of age:-

Paediatric (child) dose =  (Age in months x Adult Dose) ÷ 150

Most medication suitable for children will have a age or weight dosage guide on the labelling.
