Frenulum

In anatomy, a frenulum is a small fold. The lingual frenulum is a small fold of tissue under the centre of the tongue, which anchors the tongue to the floor of the mouth.

There are other frenula behind the centre of both upper and lower lips, under the clitoris and under the lower surface of the foreskin (prepuce) of the penis.

Rarely, if the frenulum under the tongue is too tight in a baby to allow free tongue movement, it is cut surgically.
