Phimosis is a narrowed opening in the foreskin of the penis. This is normal up to six years of age. The foreskin should never be forcibly retracted before this age. In older boys and men it may be due to infection in or under the foreskin, injury or a minor birth defect.
The man is unable to retract the foreskin over the head of the penis, and sometimes there is ballooning of the foreskin when passing urine. Balanitis (an infection of the head of the penis) due to an inability to clean under the foreskin, may be a problem.
Circumcision cures the condition.
