Saccharides

The saccharides are a very large group of compounds that includes nearly all carbohydrates, sugars and starches such as glucose, fructose and galactose. They are used for energy storage for all organic life. The cell walls of plants are all made of saccharides.

The word saccharide comes from the Greek word ‘sugar’.
