Xanthelasma

Xanthelasma are yellow-brown nodules in the soft skin around the eye. They are common in the elderly but may be a sign of high cholesterol or triglyceride levels, arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), liver cirrhosis and other liver disease.

Treatment is only necessary for cosmetic reasons and involves using diathermy, laser burning, freezing with liquid nitrogen or surgical excision.
